Why Enkilar?
The name was not chosen by chance. Behind it lies both a story thousands of years old and a very modern business problem: financial management and marketing need to work towards the same goal, yet in practice they too often operate in separate worlds.
The name Enkilar was inspired by Enki, one of the most important Sumerian deities, associated with wisdom, knowledge, creation and bringing order to the world.
For us, Enki embodies precisely what modern business needs: the ability to combine rational thinking with creativity and turn knowledge into practical decisions.
Who was the Sumerian god Enki?
Enki is one of the oldest and most important deities of Mesopotamia. In Sumerian mythology, he was associated above all with wisdom, knowledge, fresh water and the ordering of the world.
He was not merely an observer. Enki represented the knowledge and skills that allowed society to function — organising the world and teaching people.
That idea became the starting point for Enkilar.
Not knowledge for its own sake, but knowledge that can be used to manage something better.
In business today, that means understanding the numbers, seeing the connections, asking the right questions and having the courage to decide even when the answer is uncomfortable.

Why the name Enkilar?
Enkilar brings an ancient idea of wisdom into the modern business world. Financial management demands analysis, discipline and the ability to find meaning in data. Marketing needs strategic thinking, creativity and an understanding of people and markets.
At first glance, they may seem like two entirely different worlds. We do not see them that way.
Enkilar brings financial management, accounting and strategic marketing into one coherent whole.
Our premise is simple: marketing decisions should not be made in isolation from finance, and financial management should not stop at organising historical numbers. Both should support the same goal — the company’s deliberate, profitable growth.
Why do we connect financial management and marketing?
A marketer talks about clicks, conversions, brand and the customer journey. A finance director talks about margin, cash flow, cost and return. Both may do excellent work, but if the two views never meet, the most important question often remains unanswered:
Is what we are doing helping the business grow profitably?
A campaign may generate a record number of enquiries, but if acquiring one customer costs more than the business can afford, the result is not sustainable. From a finance perspective, marketing may look like a cost. Yet cutting the activity that brings in profitable new customers can slow growth rather than save money. Good management begins where those two views meet.
Not: ‘How much did marketing cost?’ but: ‘What did the business get back from that investment?’
Not only: ‘What was last month’s profit?’ but: ‘What do these numbers tell us to do next?’
How Enkilar began
Enkilar began on the University of Tartu’s master’s programme in contemporary economics, where its three founders met.
We came from different professional backgrounds and brought different practical experience, but our discussions kept returning to the same problem: finance and marketing are too often separated inside a business.
Marketing makes its plan. Finance makes its plan. Accounting looks at what has already happened. The business leader is left to combine all three alone. We thought there had to be a better way.
That is how Enkilar was born — a company where accounting, financial management and marketing do not compete for attention, but work together.
Our shared academic background gives the approach a strong analytical basis. Our different practical experience keeps a good model from staying in Excel. A business cannot be run on formulas alone. But instinct alone is not enough either.
Wisdom matters when it helps you decide
For us, Enki symbolises wisdom that sets things in motion. We expect the same from a company’s finance and marketing. Accounting should do more than record the past correctly. Financial management should help look ahead. Marketing should create measurable business value, not visibility alone. And numbers should not exist only in reports.
They should help people decide.
That is the idea behind Enkilar: bringing creativity and logic, marketing and finance, today’s numbers and tomorrow’s decisions to the same table. A strong business is not built only on what has happened. It is built on what we do next with what we know.
